Telehealth has gained significant popularity in recent years. In my own practice I have been able to meet with those that otherwise wouldn't have the time from work, life expectations, or even because of their mental health issues. It has been a great tool to increase access for many people, especially those interested in Christian counseling. Here are some reasons why telehealth is a great way to service all locations throughout MN.
Accessibility to Faith-Based Counseling: Telehealth allows individuals across Minnesota, including those in rural or remote areas, to access Christian counseling services. It becomes possible to integrating their faith into therapy with telehealth as you're able to find a Christian counselor near you via video conferencing. Telehealth removes geographical barriers, making it easier to connect with a therapist who shares and understands your Christian beliefs. This accessibility is especially important in areas where faith-based counselors might be scarce.
Convenience and Flexibility: Telehealth offers unparalleled convenience, allowing clients to attend sessions from the comfort of their homes, office, car, or even outdoors. It's been a blessing to many of my clients who can take an hour off work, meet for counseling and then return to work. A small break in the day, instead of having to account for drive time, or it being impossible if in a rural area.
A Safe Space for Vulnerability: For many Christians, discussing mental health concerns can be challenging, especially if there is a fear of judgment or misunderstanding. Telehealth can provide a safe, private space where clients feel more comfortable opening up about their struggles. Being in a familiar environment, such as your home, can help you feel more at ease, fostering a deeper level of vulnerability and honesty in sessions.
Telehealth in Minnesota offers numerous benefits from a Christian perspective, making it an excellent option for those seeking faith-based counseling. Whether it’s the convenience, accessibility, or the ability to integrate spiritual practices into therapy, telehealth provides a valuable opportunity to pursue mental health and spiritual growth in tandem. For Christians committed to their faith, telehealth can be a powerful tool in fostering a deeper relationship with God while addressing emotional and psychological needs.

Several studies have found that both clients and their therapists view online therapy favorably. It's effectiveness to treat mental health symptoms are just as good as in person with even an increase in outcomes by women. It also allows you to find the right therapist for you, including the right Christian perspective.
Lack of access to the technology needed is the largest disadvantage to telehealth. There can also be a problem with knowing how to use the technology. The type of mental health diagnosis a person has can also pose a problem with the use of telehealth.
There can be huge convenience in doing marriage counseling online. The biggest is the location. Is someone needs to be home by a certain time for the kids or other family obligations, then meeting online at your own home allows for that. I have also worked with couples were the spouses are in separate places, allowing a break from work for therapy, travel, or busy schedules. It can also help the more reluctant spouse to cross that bridge and get the help the couple needs.
Insurance companies have come to agree that telehealth allows for more people getting services, that may have never gone in person or their location was prohibitive. From an ethical standpoint as long as privacy is maintained telehealth provides a great option for clients.
