Faith-Fueled Guidance: Navigating Life Transitions with Christian Counseling in Minnesota

Aug 09, 2024

God calls us to love others as we love ourselves (Matthew 22:39). As a Christian counselor I see it as my work in the body of Christ to do just that, love others. And part of that love is to work with the tough parts of life like mental health issues, life transitions that negatively affect us, and places we need support. That love from me looks like someone who not only sits with you in the hard things but also utilizes therapeutic techniques from a Biblical worldview.

Jesus tells us that He is with us (Matthew 28:20) through life transitions it’s important to rely on our faith (what God has said) to us to find purpose and direction. It is how we see God that allows us to move forward in difficult times and walking with someone helps us bear that load.

For example, I’ve walked with many clients who have had difficulties with their children and even have county involvement. As a Christian therapist, I know how important family is but also for them to be healthy families. We addressed the problems and I was able to support them throughout. With faith, even the hardest times are gotten through because God is with us.

Strengthening Marriages through Christian Counseling

Marriages can be some of the hardest relationships we have throughout our lives. Two people with different backgrounds, expectations, communication styles, and understanding come together to make a family. It can make for a difficult part of life that we need help with.

From a Christian perspective, I utilize marriage research, like the Gottman method, to improve communication, intimacy, and connection in marriage, all from Christian principles. Although other counselors can utilize the techniques without the Christian perspective there can be a bias toward the secular thinking and beliefs. I believe that with hard work and willingness to understand each other marriages can be changed to reflect God's glory.

Christian Counseling for Anxiety and Stress

Anxiety and stress are one of the major challenges that Minnesotans face, according to a study. Urban or rural life, the economy, family and friends, church dynamics, jobs, etc. There are lots of places that can anxiety and stress in a person’s life.

As a Christian counselor in Minnesota, I understand the complexity of anxiety that is in our region. I can help clients manage anxiety and stress by integrating Biblical principles and helping them walk those principles out, like having the peace of God that Jesus leaves us. I also utilize CBT to look at the false beliefs that we have that continue anxiety in our lives and ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) to look at how our beliefs align with our actions.

Anxiety and stress can become a huge problem in our lives, affecting our walk with God and all the areas we're called to by God. When we work on the problems, we can find the peace and comfort that comes from trusting God through life's challenges, as reinforced by a Christian Counselor.
